Treating your diabetes
Although patients with type 2 diabetes have some functioning beta cells in their pancreas, over time these beta cells tend to produce decreasing amounts of insulin. Blood glucose levels may be further elevated by cells becoming increasingly resistant to the actions of insulin, particularly in people who are overweight. In the first instance, the treatment aims at preserving or improving beta cell function and insulin sensitivity.
