What makes NovoPen® 6 ‘smart’1 is its connectivity functionality, which uses near-field communication (NFC) technology to connect with a compatible companion app on a smart device. This also allows you to store, access, and share your insulin injection history with your healthcare provider, which may help them support personalised treatment for you.

Moreover, in combination with a compatible app these smart1 insulin pens can provide insights into your injection habits, which might help you understand your injection behaviour better and learn from them.

Finally, some compatible companion apps also show blood glucose data from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) or blood glucose monitoring (BGM) devices, such as visualising insulin levels and blood glucose levels together.

The first step in your journey towards getting a digital overview of your injection history, glucose readings, and dosing data is to find and download a compatible companion app.

Once you’ve downloaded your companion app, follow the app’s instructions on how to connect and then start using the smart pen with the app.

To get started, please see our ‘Connect your pen’ guide

There are two ways for you to view your latest dosing information:

NovoPen® 6 can record and store the last 800 doses, including flowcheck doses.

Each pen has a dose memory display that reveals the following details:

  • Number of units dosed
  • The time since your last injection

Your second option is to view your dosing information in a compatible companion app.

Your smartphone needs to be compatible with NovoPen® 6:

  • Does your phone have a NFC (Near Field Communication) point? Check your companion app’s instruction on how to find it.
  • Does the app manufacturer support your smartphone and OS? Check out their compatibility list.
  • Have you updated to the latest version of the app?

Follow your compatible companion app’s instructions on how to share your digital injection diary with your healthcare provider in order to give them an up to date view of your dosing history.
